Between 1996 and 1998, the small town of Columbus, Mississippi faced five unsolved murders of elderly residents. The victims were killed in their homes, and similarities among the crimes led investigators to suspect a possible serial killer. As fear spread throughout the community, police faced mounting pressure to identify the perpetrator, while residents questioned whether authorities were overlooking important evidence or protecting someone within the town. "48 Hours" correspondent Harold Dow reports. This classic "48 Hours" episode last aired on 7/16/2001. Watch all-new episodes of “48 Hours” on Saturdays and stream on demand on Paramount+.
