Air Force Special Warfare trainees are reportedly reaching their berets roughly 70 days faster under the revised training pipeline, and Aaron, Trent, and Peaches dig into what that number actually means. The biggest improvement appears to be less wasted time between courses — reducing the periods where students are awaiting training instead of actually progressing through the pipeline. For Pararescue, Combat Control and other AFSPECWAR career fields with complex course schedules, cutting that dead time could be a significant improvement without removing actual training requirements.
That distinction matters. The guys have been extremely critical of previous “optimization” efforts that shortened a pipeline on paper by simply moving requirements somewhere else. Removing dive training from the three-level pipeline, for example, does not eliminate the requirement — it pushes the scheduling, pre-dive requirements and administrative burden onto operational squadrons. A real improvement is different: keep the standards and capabilities intact while removing unnecessary waiting, improving course alignment and getting fully trained operators to their units sooner.
And this time, Ones Ready gives credit where it’s due. The rollout of the Zulu Course and broader AFSPECWAR pipeline changes generated months of criticism, including plenty from this podcast, but Aaron, Trent and Peaches acknowledge that the current cadre and leadership appear to be moving the system in a positive direction. The unanswered question remains the most important one: are they producing the same quality operator? If the standards remain intact and the Air Force can genuinely graduate the same product faster, then cutting 70 days is a legitimate win.

PINNED COMMENT
AFSPECWAR cuts roughly 70 days from the pipeline — but assume the standards stay exactly the same.
What matters most?
A — Less time sitting between courses
B — Getting operators to units faster
C — Keeping every capability in the formal pipeline
D — None of it matters until we see the quality of the graduates
And if the product stays the same or gets better, is 70 days enough for you to call the pipeline overhaul a win?
