Show notes

In this week's episode, Tay sits down with dating and relationship expert and coach, podcast host, and author Sabrina Zohar! She has a new book out called Why Am I Like This?, where she asked the question, "What if the biggest thing keeping people stuck isn't their dating app, their career, an ex, or circumstances, but the unconscious survival patterns they've been carrying for years?”. She dives into how our earliest relationships influence what later feels familiar, safe, or attractive to us, and walks through healthy ways to navigate conflict and disagreement in relationships. She also answers some of the biggest questions people have when it comes to breaking patterns, including why we keep choosing the same type of person, why understanding our patterns intellectually doesn't always translate to changing our behavior, and what role self-trust plays in breaking unhealthy relationship cycles. Sabrina gets into the difference between compromising in a healthy relationship and making yourself smaller just to keep someone, and tackles the question of whether someone needs to be fully healed before entering a healthy relationship or whether some healing naturally happens within one. She shares one small practice listeners can start today for creating a healthier response the next time they feel triggered, and wraps up with her advice for anyone who has been blaming themselves in their relationships!
